Brick Installation

Two of the most common forms of brick materials that we use in our landscape designs are brick pavers and brick veneers.

Brick pavers are the individual bricks we install on the ground to create outdoor hardscaping features. Brick veneers are thin bricks used in facades over existing walls, and often content core structures, to give the appearance of full brick construction.

Most of our projects involve brick in one way or another and when it’s time to install bricks, it’s typically either brick veneers or brick pavers that we’re using. These two materials are incredibly popular in Dallas area home construction and are typically installed in projects in this way:

Installing Brick Veneers

Surface preparation: We begin by ensuring the wall or substrate is clean, dry, and structurally sound, removing any loose paint, debris, or damaged materials.
Layout planning: Our team carefully measures the area and plans the layout of the brick veneers, taking into account the size of the bricks and the desired pattern.
Adhesive application: Using a notched trowel, we apply a thin-set mortar or brick adhesive to the back of each brick veneer, ensuring complete coverage for a secure bond.
Veneer placement: With precision and care, we press the brick veneers firmly onto the wall, starting from the bottom and working our way up, using spacers to maintain consistent gaps between the bricks.
Cutting and fitting: Our skilled masons use a wet saw or masonry chisel to cut the brick veneers as needed to fit around corners, outlets, or other obstacles, ensuring a seamless finish.
Grouting: Once the adhesive has set, we fill the gaps between the brick veneers with grout using a grout float, removing any excess grout and smoothing the joints for a polished look.
Cleaning and sealing: After the grout has dried, we meticulously clean the surface of the brick veneers with a damp sponge and apply a sealer to protect against moisture and stains, ensuring long-lasting beauty.

Installing Brick Pavers

Area excavation: Our team begins by removing grass, soil, or existing materials from the area where the brick pavers will be installed, excavating to a depth that allows for a proper base and sand bedding.
Base preparation: We add a layer of compactible gravel or crushed stone to the excavated area, spreading it evenly and compacting it with a plate compactor to create a stable foundation.
Bedding sand addition: Our experts spread a layer of coarse sand over the compacted base, using a screed board to level the surface and ensure proper drainage.
Paver laying: With a keen eye for detail, we begin laying the brick pavers in the desired pattern, starting from a corner or edge and working our way inward, using spacers to maintain consistent gaps between the pavers.
Cutting and fitting: Using a masonry saw or paver splitter, we skillfully cut the brick pavers as needed to fit around curves, corners, or obstacles, ensuring a seamless and attractive finish.
Paver compaction: Once all the pavers are in place, we use a plate compactor to firmly settle the bricks into the sand bedding, creating a stable and even surface.
Joint sand application: As a final step, we spread fine sand over the surface of the pavers, sweeping it into the joints until they are filled, and removing any excess sand from the surface for a clean and professional look.
