We remodeled this whole backyard in Plano, TX with a clean new look. Old concrete got repaired, instead of removed, then topped with a limestone overlay. We also retiled the pool and updated the coping with a cleaner edge that looks sharp from the back door.
A spillover spa joined the pool and we kept the stone colors calm, so the design is light and neutral.
We landscaped the rest of the yard with a tejas gravel xeriscape and added concrete pavers to make it easy to traverse.
In the shaded areas, gravel improved the appearance where grass won’t grow and reduced erosion issues, while making the space look finished and intentional.
The pool area had cracks across the surface that were ruining the appearance of their backyard. We resurfaced the deck with a limestone overlay, so it feels smooth and looks good again.
Then we tied everything together with tejas gravel. It fills shady spots and keeps the yard looking neat. We set concrete pavers right into that gravel for a walkway which links the side yard to the pool area.
More features got added, but the yard stayed open. A spa, a shower, a kitchen, and a small pergola all fit.
That balance matters, because space can feel tight fast. Here, people can move around with plates and towels.
It ends up feeling like a small resort. The kind that still feels like yours.

We added a spillover spa off the side of the pool. Water spills over, so the pool feels more alive. Steps lead down into the main pool from the spa.
Creamy gray travertine on the spa walls and edge matches the light gray patio overlay and blends in well enough to look original.
In the evening, pool lighting creates a magical ambiance with sparkling light reflecting off the water cascading over the spa steps.

We built a compact outdoor kitchen right off the back corner of the house. The brick veneer in this addition matches the home’s original exterior perfectly. That little detail makes the kitchen feel like part of the home instead of added on later.
A few key stainless steel appliances fit neatly into the tight layout, and everything needed is right there, without a long walk back inside.
A small pergola covers the kitchen area, so you can cook in all kinds of weather and all year long. It also helps soften the sun on bright days.

We added a rinse-off shower near the back of the house for pool days so the kids could clean-up outside before running back into the house. The shower sits right beside the pavers set in tejas gravel. That placement keeps traffic off the grass and helps prevent tracking mud indoors.
The side walls of the shower are cedar that’s stained and treated, so it can stand up to the weater. And the back wall features large format porcelain tile for a clean look.
Underfoot, we set a concrete slab into the gravel, with a drain built in. Water has a place to go, and never threatens the foundation.
